Allandale Homes For Sale

Allandale

Experience

Allandale is the upper-middle-class suburban American dream, with the usual Austin touch of weird. The Allandale neighborhood is located just north of downtown Austin. Many of the houses have been here for decades and so have many of the residents. There are two types of people who search for a home, those who want everything brand new and those who do not. For anyone who appreciates a home with history, Allandale has older homes that are consistently in fine condition, well-manicured and well-maintained. The streets are tree-lined with many cul de sacs, so it’s very suburban and doesn’t get a lot of traffic.

Allandale is a great place to live for everyone. It's also a good place for couples with small children because it's a safe, quiet, neighborhood with great schools and parks in the area. In addition to having a close-knit community, Allandale offers easy access to other parts of the city as it borders MoPac on the west, Rt. 2222 runs through the neighborhood, and downtown is just a few miles to the south. The neighborhood association is very active in bringing the neighborhood together through events like the annual Fourth of July parade, and in improving the community like building flood-prevention infrastructure. Located right in the heart of the neighborhood is Sheffield Northwest Park, an incredibly well-appointed green space complete with duck pond, fishing pier, hiking trail, well-designed playground, baseball field, barbecue pits and picnic tables, as well as basketball and tennis courts that remain lit after dark for evening play. Allandale is also home to the Burnet Rd Farmers Market and Northwest Municipal Pool, making the neighborhood an idyllic place to raise children.

This is a great quiet neighborhood with some pretty cool restaurants nearby. Amy’s Ice Creams is an Austin fav. The employees will do tricks for you while they mix your ice cream with various toppings. The Austin Diner is also quite an experience. They have interesting specials like fried green tomatoes. Along West Anderson and Koenig Lane there are a number of Asian restaurants and stores. The Northcross Shopping Center also has pretty much everything you would need, so you don’t have to maneuver the interstates to get your shopping done. You’ve also got a convenient cupcake shop and comic book shop right near the middle school. What more could a kid ask for? There are several bars and gyms. Phil's Icehouse has a great playground, as does Hat Creek. Pacha and Monkey Nest are perfect for the coffee drinkers. Maru is a super underrated sushi restaurant with a casual atmosphere, but affordable, great sushi.

Allandale homes have the advantage of being a short drive from the cosmopolitan lifestyle of downtown Austin, the shabby-chic districts of south Austin or the eclectic and creative activities that abound throughout east Austin. More upscale shopping and dining is available at The Domain, a mixed-use shopping center with national retailers about five miles north of the neighborhood on MoPac Expressway. Many of Austin’s large employers, as well as the University of Texas, are within five miles of Allandale. Employers from the tech industries to the north and west, such as Dell, Samsung and Apple, are also located within ten miles of most homes.

Schools

Allandale is home to some of Austin’s highest rated schools. Allandale students are assigned to several different schools within Austin ISD including Gullet (K-5) or Wooten (K-5) Elementary, Burnet (6-8) or Lamar (6-8) Middle and Lanier (9-12) or McCallum (9-12) High School. Residents are encouraged to check with AISD to confirm school assignment corresponding to their address.
