Experience

Brentwood is a trendy, established neighborhood with gorgeous tree-lined streets in north central Austin, that has existed for over half a century. It makes sense that the Brentwood neighborhood was once a cotton and dairy farm as large, graceful trees and green spaces still characterize this pleasant, centrally located area. This neighborhood has many one-and-a-half story bungalow-type houses, some of which were purchased by returning GIs who wanted to start families after World War II. Many of the residents have been here for decades, as have many of the local businesses, resulting in a close-knit community. In addition to the original residents, musicians and artists who work downtown have settled in the area. This inviting atmosphere fits perfectly with the style of Austin.

Brentwood's houses, a mix of 1950s pier-and-beam cottages and some trendy, modern structures, range from remodeled gems to older homes creating a nice mix of old and new. The neighborhood itself offers a quiet sense of peace with houses set back substantially from the street on lots significantly larger than by today’s standard. Residents appreciate both the privacy afforded from big driveways and long entry paths, as well as the expansive backyards and the shade from established trees during the warmer months.

The Brentwood Park and the annual festivals present opportunities for residents to get together. All residents within the boundaries of Brentwood are encouraged to join the Brentwood Neighborhood Association and become a partner as they work to create a family-friendly and inclusive community of engaged citizens. The abundance of produce from the local community garden has been so successful that the Brentwood Neighborhood Association hosts its very own farmers market in the growing seasons. Each year the Violet Crown Festival, a beloved neighborhood tradition, is held in Brentwood Park. Additionally, a creek called Arroyo Seco runs through the neighborhood and each Christmas residents love the tradition of the creek being decorated with luminarias.

A short commute from The University of Texas and downtown Austin, Brentwood is an increasingly popular area for young professionals, new families, UT professors and graduate students. The location is good for those who want to live in a quiet, safe, suburban neighborhood, but still be close to downtown and have access to major local highways. Families relax at the barbeque areas and playing fields of the nine-acre Brentwood Park with tennis courts, 14 playgrounds, basketball courts, a volleyball court, and a swimming pool. Cooling off with a dip in the pool at Northwest District Park is another option. There are also several high-tech companies within the neighborhood.

Schools
