Experience

Ruby Ranch is a quiet, rural subdivision south of Austin in Buda, Texas. If you’re looking for a quiet life in the hill country, Ruby Ranch may be the perfect community to call home. Wide open spaces, mature trees and Texas wildlife are plentiful in this large community. Onion Creek winds through the community and creates a majestic setting for the events held at Ruby Ranch Lodge. Ruby Ranch residents have built elaborate custom homes with unique designs and high end features. Ruby Ranch’s custom homes are far from cookie cutter; Spanish style villas and hill country estates rest on lots one to five acres in size. Buda, being the “Outdoor Capital of Texas”, offers Ruby Ranch residents a neighborhood that stays true to its Texas country roots. Known for its acreage home sites surrounded by mature trees and natural flora and well-appointed homes, Ruby Ranch is the ideal choice for those looking for a true Texas look and feel just minutes from the conveniences of city life. Quiet hill country living has never been better than at Ruby Ranch.

Ruby Ranch started out as several different ranches. Cecil Ruby Sr. acquired them over time and he built an eight foot high fence around it, a total of 5,000 acres. The YO ranch leased the ranch for 20 years for exotic and native game hunting. It was named the YO Onion Creek Lodge. Mr. Ruby built the original lodge just down the creek from the present location. It was quite rustic, but comfortable, and he was always entertaining political friends and dignitaries. Mr. Ruby built a hunting stand, on what is now the Dahlstrom ranch, for a famous friend. Today we still call that stand “the LBJ stand”! It is about 30 feet tall and equipped with running water, a flush toilet, a stove and an electric elevator (which has been taken out of service), as well as a RED telephone!

Outdoor recreation is easy to find in Buda. Locals can play almost any outdoor sport at the Buda Sportsplex. Golfers can enjoy the championship green at the Plum Creek Golf Club. Ruby Ranch residents who are racing fans cheer on their favorite drivers at Circuit of the Americas. Those who love fishing benefit from the short drive to the freshwaters of Lake Kyle, which is also a great place for a morning jog or stroll. Hunters and campers converge and shop gear from local landmark Cabela's Sporting Goods. Fitness enthusiasts take a short drive to yoga, pilates, and other classes at the Hays Community YMCA.

Ruby Ranch makes the perfect daily retreat but is still close enough to Downtown Austin to take advantage of the city's festivals and seasonal events. Downtown Buda has transformed from a sleepy town to a thriving center of quaint shops and restaurants. Locals like to meet up with friends at Tavern on Main for dinner and live music. Foodies revel in Buda's best foods with the nearby weekly Farmer's Market on Main Street. For shopping, residents stock up on groceries with H-E-B grocery store just 11 miles away. Just south of Buda are the cities of Kyle and San Marcos for many other fun things to do. A few minutes north on IH 35 is the Southpark Meadows shopping center with over 100 stores, movie theater, and restaurants. Homeowners are also within minutes of a Texas staple, barbecue at The Salt Lick.
