Pemberton Heights Homes For Sale
Pemberton Heights
Pemberton Heights is a storied neighborhood just north of Windsor Road in Travis County’s 78703. Pemberton Heights' homes sit east of Mopac Expressway as Tarrytown sits to the west. It is one of Austin’s more historic neighborhoods with stately homes spanning decades, dating back to the early thirties. Developed on what was the Harris farm, the community has always been one of Austin’s most prestigious. There’s also not as much to do here in this sleepy haven as other neighborhoods, but that’s largely why it is one of the most coveted zip codes inside the city limits. In 1998, Town & Country magazine named it one of America’s top-25 “platinum neighborhoods in the US.” Not even gold—platinum, and it is easy to see why. The area is family-oriented, with a friendly atmosphere that many residents value just as much as the beautiful environment. Currently, the neighborhood association is working to fend off any new construction that may threaten the area's special charm.
A leisurely drive along Jarrett Avenue or the parallel Harris Boulevard is a journey across architectural styles. Pemberton Heights' homes share one unifying characteristic, and that is elegance. If you are considering this area, you will find 2-bedroom cottages sitting comfortably beside 6-bedroom estates. These houses, with stone and stucco exteriors, are set among well-manicured grounds of ivy and old-growth trees. It is their classic Craftsman and Tudor-inspired lines and beautifully detailed finishes, as well as their envious location, that make them part of this enclave of central Austin luxury homes.
Pemberton Heights, even though it is the Beverly Hills of Central Texas, is unique for many reasons. It is just northwest of downtown Austin, but doesn’t suffer the same pitfalls as other neighborhoods close to the epicenter of the city, namely: traffic, noise, and crime. There are also ample green spaces within the tiny community, including Hartford Park to the west (plus Tarrytown Neighborhood park just over the MoPac boundary) and the Shoal Creek greenbelt to the east. Residents living in this neighborhood enjoy Laguna Gloria, a well-preserved estate that is part of the Austin Contemporary Museum of Art, and offers classes, tours, and modern art exhibitions. Pemberton Heights' homes are not far from Lake Austin or dining at Abel’s on the Lake, less than three miles away. Mozart’s Coffeehouse, in the same area, offers bottomless cups of coffee and cozy waterfront views that would rival any Seattle coffeehouse.
Austin ISD serves students in Pemberton Heights. Casis Elementary School (K-5), Henry Middle School (6-8) and Austin High School (9-12) are the assigned schools for this neighborhood. There are several private school options with the closest being St. Andrews Episcopal School (1-12) on W. 31st Street, about a mile and a half away.
