Experience

Oltorf-Riverside is a conveniently located neighborhood offering low-cost housing, proximity to major local highways, and easy access to downtown and south Austin with their shopping, dining, and nightlife options. The neighborhood is bordered by I-35 on the west, and E. Oltorf St. and E. Riverside Dr., two major thoroughfares, providing access to central and south Austin. The recently expanded Lady Bird Lake hike and bike trail also offers direct access to south Austin and Zilker Park, a popular location in Austin, to enjoy the outdoors. Residents can also take advantage of the lake for boating and even to get to downtown by canoe.

The Oltorf-Riverside neighborhood has a lot of strip malls, beloved food trucks, ethnic and fast food restaurants, and hip music venues. Beloved music venue Emo’s, which moved to East Riverside from Red River Street in 2011, boasts some of the best acts in town. Meanwhile Grizzly Hall, which replaced Midway Field House recently, holds its own as a venue and event space. For a good ol’ fashioned bar scene, hit Jackalope South Shore, the sister location of the Dirty Sixth dive bar. And if you’re in it to win it, grab a group of competitive friends and head to American Bingo, which is BYOB and far from your granny’s local bingo joint.

The new 1.3-mile Boardwalk at Lady Bird Lake, which extends as far west as the former Austin American-Statesman building, is the crowning jewel of the neighborhood, a place where you can race your running buddy or take your pup out for a leisurely stroll. Get on the lake with Live Love Paddle by renting a paddleboard or kayak. The time of the year doesn’t have to be Halloween for you to visit The Bazaar, the costume shop keeping Austin weird since 1966.

Local favorite eateries include the classic taco food truck Rosita’s Al Pastor and the belt-loosening Churro Co., where you can pick up the sweet Mexican dessert. Hop on over to The Buzz Mill for a good dose of joe or to MOUR Cafe + Pantry to wine and dine. And to get lost in a big comforting bowl of pho, try the fresh Vietnamese eatery Pho Please
