Travis Heights Homes For Sale
Travis Heights
Trendy Travis Heights started out as a south-of-the-river neighborhood that used to be considered out in the boonies. In the years that Austin has grown up and around this neighborhood, Travis Heights has developed a hip and lively personality. Abundant with natural beauty, this coveted Travis County community is in the 78704 zip code and features an eclectic mix of single-family homes and condominiums. Rolling, winding streets shrouded in mature live oak trees showcase an eclectic array of historic 1920s-era craftsmen constructed homes with gardens, plus a few modernist constructions. From small cottages to impressive mini-estates, there is truly something for everyone in Travis Heights. Outdoor features include broad front porches, grand entryways, bold landscaping, covered porches, decking, pools, and spas. The trees are large, shading both the houses and the gathering areas with lots ranging from smaller subdivided properties to oversized corner parcels. Because of its established roots, it is not uncommon to see alleys, detached garages, and garage apartments. Travis Heights holds the title as one of the longest reigning cool neighborhoods in Austin to call home.
Travis Heights is a sought-after residential neighborhood close to the best amenities Austin has to offer. A nature-lover’s paradise, locals hit the wooded trail of the Blunn Creek Greenbelt, which connects a pair of neighborhood parks, the Big Stacy, with a spring-fed pool, and the Little Stacy, destinations for swimming, picnicking, and tennis-playing. Zilker Park is another South Austin hot spot offering vast green areas for frisbee playing, picnicking, and music concerts. Bordered by Lady Bird Lake and surrounded by leafy trees, expansive parks, a leash-free dog park and biking and jogging trails, there are always great reasons to get outdoors.
With superior walkability, residents access popular South Congress Avenue, arguably the best shopping spot in Austin, for a multitude of shops, services, cafes, and fine dining. Restaurants like Guero’s Taco Bar, Homeslice, Vespaio, and South Congress Café are longtime favorites, with trendy new eateries opening regularly. Music venues like The Continental Club and Ego’s are always hopping, while upscale designers like Kendra Scott sit close by funky stores like Uncommon Objects. South Congress Avenue has a long tradition of First Thursday, an Austin-style block party that occurs on the first Thursday of each month with live music, vendors, drink specials, and artisans. And of course, the bright lights of downtown Austin are always calling for residents to take in additional live music, unique festivals, happy hours, and late night dinners. Although conveniently across the lake from downtown, Travis Heights’ own welcoming cafes and breweries cultivate the neighborhood’s down-to-earth, unintimidating atmosphere. There are many art shops in the area, and the annual Travis Heights Art Trail is an opportunity for local residents to open their homes for art exhibits and sales.
Close to Interstate 35, South Congress Avenue, and Highway 290, residents have easy access to many other parts of Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, Buda, and San Marcos. Major employers include St. Edward’s University, Austin ISD, high-tech and banking employers downtown, and the many retailers and restaurants along South Congress Avenue. Many local employers are within walking or biking distance for residents, and public bus routes also run through the neighborhood.
