South Lamar Homes For Sale

South Lamar

Experience

The South Lamar neighborhood is one of those areas in Austin that give south Austin its reputation as a unique, funky and eclectic town. The South Congress neighborhood reigns number one for its cool factor. It’s more of a new Austin cool, while South Lamar retains an old Austin cool. This neighborhood is quite charming. South Lamar, a.k.a. "SoLa", was once a sleepy area with mostly used car lots, but has since become one of the lively and most desirable neighborhoods in south Austin. South Lamar offers just about everything that many people find attractive about Austin: live music, local restaurants, clubs, and boutiques, and affordable living. South Lamar has been continually growing and as more people move into the area, the houses have been upgraded with added amenities.

Although modernizing, South Lamar retains its old-time Austin roots. One of the neighborhood landmarks is the legendary Broken Spoke dance hall, named the best country dance hall in the nation by Entertainment magazine and a must-see when visiting Texas by the European Travel Guide. The Broken Spoke is an Austin institution where one can learn to two-step and gentlemen still ask the ladies to dance. The neighborhood is just minutes from downtown. The natural greenspaces of Zilker Park and Barton Creek are just to the west.

As downtown and south Austin’s very own playground, South Lamar has much to be proud of. Residents enjoy Red’s Porch, and the newly renovated Alamo Drafthouse. A walk down South Lamar will open your eyes to a dizzying world of retail, coffee, and dining options, along with tattoo parlors, boutiques, salons, and funky gift shops. There is a wide range of retail shops, including some colorful second-hand stores, plenty of bars and authentic Mexican restaurants such as Matt’s El Rancho, an old-time Tex-Mex restaurant. Olivia’s, a favorite of foodies, and the Odd Duck, a unique eating option are other choices. SoLa has a little bit of everything and has become a hotbed of activity. If you can’t find something to do, something to eat, or something to see, you’re probably not living here…but you could be.
